The German association Fair IT yourself e.V. is taking over the Faire Mouse from the previously responsible association Nager IT e.V. Preparations for this have been underway for months: In the summer Nager IT began searching for a successor for further production, sales, and potential further development. Nager IT sees itself as the initiator of the project, but not as a long-term manufacturer.

The model is called Faire Mouse because those responsible focus on environmentally friendly components and fair working conditions in the supply chain. A graphic shows the origin of all components and where which work steps take place. At the end of 2024 the Faire Mouse received the Blue Angel eco-label – so far the only PC mouse.

The handover will take place on January 1, 2026. Currently a campaign is running, to raise money for it. According to Nager IT founder Susanne Jordan, a total of 80,000 euros are needed. For this, those responsible will pay, among other things, residual loans, production materials, inventory, and handover costs.

Two investors are contributing a total of 40,000 euros. Around 25,000 euros have already been raised through the current campaign in the form of mouse purchases and donations – the graphic for this on the new website still needs to be updated. So only 15,000 euros are missing.

Jordan told heise online that the continued existence of the Faire Mouse does not necessarily depend on the campaign. Reaching the 80,000 euros would facilitate the handover, but in case of doubt, the outstanding amount could be paid with proceeds from the coming months.

So far, Nager IT has designed a single PC mouse in various versions. It is a rudimentary model with a 1000-dpi optical sensor from Pixart. Fair IT yourself e.V. wants to develop further products. For example, a wireless mouse, an ergonomically shaped version, or a keyboard could be considered.

Nager IT currently still operates its own webshop (whose proceeds flow into the campaign). In addition, individual retailers sell some variants.
