Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 become more expensive
The Raspi manufacturer is increasing prices for all Raspberry Pis of the fourth and fifth generation. The surcharges range from 9 to 21 percent.

Raspberry Pi Plc. is increasing prices for other products. After the so-called compute modules, it's now the turn of the single-board computers Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5. The manufacturer is increasing the recommended price by a good 9 to almost 21 percent, depending on the memory configuration.
The new prices have already arrived in stores. The 16 GByte version of the Raspi 5 is affected the most. To continue offering a version around 50 Euros, the manufacturer is introducing a Raspi 5 variant with only one gigabyte of memory. It is currently not yet available in Germany.

SDRAM too expensive
Raspi founder Eben Upton blames rising memory prices for the adjustment. According to him, the previous prices are no longer sustainable. In recent weeks, prices for SDRAM chips have exploded, including for LPDDR4 types used in Raspis.
Hyperscalers are buying memory in bulk for their data centers. At the same time, memory world market leaders SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron are shifting their production to the in-demand variants in AI data centers. This leaves fewer chips available, especially for smaller buyers.
Specific certified chips are used on the Raspis, which the manufacturer cannot simply replace. Consequently, the supply is particularly limited.
As early as October, Upton wrote that the purchased LPDDR4 memory was twice as expensive at the time as it was in 2024. Until then, the company had compensated for higher production costs with a lower margin. Meanwhile, memory prices have risen significantly further – adjustments to the Raspis were therefore only a matter of time.
