Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: Double-folding Foldable
Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Trifold: The foldable is double-folding and can be used as a smartphone or as an ultra-thin 10-inch tablet.

Just under a year after the first teaser at the Galaxy S25 event in January, the South Korean tech giant has unveiled its double-folding foldable. With the Galaxy Z TriFold, the company has presented its second promised new device category for this year, alongside the MR headset Galaxy XR. At launch, it will initially only be available in South Korea – at a hefty price.
Samsung is the second company to offer a double-folding smartphone with its TriFold: Chinese manufacturer Huawei had already introduced its Mate XT in September 2024. Huawei's and Samsung's double-folding devices have roughly the same screen sizes: when folded, they measure just under 6.4 and 6.5 inches respectively, and when fully unfolded, they become a tablet with a screen diagonal of ten inches.

However, they differ in their construction: the Huawei model has a hinge that folds inwards and outwards, described as an "S-shaped" fold. Part of the flexible panel then serves as an external display. The manufacturer has been pursuing this approach since the Mate X from 2019, only that device was single-folding.

In Samsung's TriFold, both hinges fold inwards from the sides. This fold is described as "G-shaped." With Samsung's model, you also have to pay attention to the correct order: first the right side, then the left side. Additionally, like the single-folding Galaxy Z Fold, it has an external screen that allows the device to be used like a conventional smartphone.

The external screen measures 6.5 inches, has an adaptive refresh rate of one to 120 Hz, and a resolution of 2520 × 1080 pixels (FHD+). It reaches a peak brightness of up to 2600 cd/m². The 10-inch internal display has a resolution of 2160 × 1584 pixels, also an adaptive refresh rate of one to 120 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1600 cd/m² (peak).
To make the device stable despite its new dimensions, Samsung uses, according to its own statements, a "refined Armor FlexHinge with a dual-rail structure, titanium hinge housing, and Advanced Armor Aluminum for the frame." Furthermore, the device is protected against water and moderately against dust according to IP48. When folded, the Galaxy Z TriFold is 159.2 Ă— 75 Ă— 12.9 mm thick; when unfolded, it measures 159.2 Ă— 214.1 Ă— 3.9 mm. With a weight of 309 grams, it is not as light as a standard smartphone, nor as light as Huawei's Mate XT, which weighs 298 grams. Huawei's model is also only 3.6 mm thin at its thinnest point. However, both manufacturers leave out the rear cameras.

The rear triple camera consists of a 200 MP wide-angle camera with 2x optical zoom, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10 MP telephoto camera (with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x "Space Zoom"). The front camera on the external screen has a 10 MP sensor, as does the one under the main screen.
A customized "Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy" (3 nm) processor is used, which was already installed in the Galaxy S25 series. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, announced by Qualcomm in September, is expected to be used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, anticipated in early 2026. The SoC (System on a Chip) is accompanied by 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of internal storage.
The TriFold's battery has increased slightly compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7: instead of 4400 mAh, it has a "triple-cell battery system" with 5600 mAh. This is relatively large for a Samsung device, but small when comparing the capacity to classic smartphones from Oppo or OnePlus, which have 7500 and 7300 mAh respectively. The battery is charged wired at up to 45 W and wirelessly at 15 W.
AI and full DeX
On the software side, the device is based on Android 16 with Samsung's One UI 8 overlay. The manufacturer has apparently expanded the multitasking capabilities specifically for the TriFold. The 10-inch screen is said to be divisible into three app areas. Furthermore, it is "the first mobile device with the standalone Samsung DeX," Samsung's desktop interface for mobile devices. The DeX interface is said to support up to four workspaces, each with five apps running simultaneously, according to the manufacturer.

Naturally, as in the manufacturer's other devices, AI functions are integrated via Galaxy AI. In addition to "Photo Assist," which includes "Generative Edit" and "Sketch to Image," Samsung has also integrated its browsing assistant and Google's Gemini and Gemini Live.
(Not yet) for Europe
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z TriFold is scheduled for release in South Korea starting December 12. Subsequently, the device is to be offered in markets such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the USA. Europe remains excluded for now. The price is said to be around 2500 Euros.
