After the discount battle comes the parcel battle: parcel service provider DHL is currently processing a record volume of shipments after the past Black Friday led to a massive number of online orders. On Tuesday, the number of parcels sorted in a single day, at around 12.4 million, broke the record mark.
In Germany, DHL sorted more parcels within 24 hours on that day than ever before, as the parcel service states. That's almost twice as many as the company usually handles on a normal day in its nationwide parcel network – it's typically around 6.7 million. The number of parcels processed daily was already at a very high level last week.
Busiest week of the year
DHL expects the current first week of December to be the busiest week of the entire year. The reason is the past Black Friday weekend, during which numerous online retailers lured customers with discount campaigns. Since the beginning of this week, the shipped orders have been sorted and subsequently delivered in the German postal and parcel network.

In addition to DHL and online retail, phishing attackers are also experiencing a boom these days. The online fraudsters want to lure victims with alleged additional payments by posing as DHL. They create notification emails from the parcel service deceptively realistically and try to get recipients to enter their credit card details, for example. They are counting on their targets potentially expecting a parcel.
