PlayStation fans can now also take off: On December 8th, the PS5 version of "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024" will be released for all buyers, after pre-order customers of the premium editions have been able to play since December 3rd.
"Flight Simulator 2024" is the latest in-house development from Microsoft's Xbox teams to find its way onto the competitor's console. It is interesting that Microsoft apparently had other plans at first. Development lead Jörg Neumann said this in conversation with XDA Developers.

He had asked the Xbox leadership team early in the development of the current flight simulator to also approve a PS5 version. However, this was initially rejected. Only when a Sony executive, who is a flight simulator fan, approached Microsoft and asked for a port did Microsoft change its mind. It is unclear whether Sony and Microsoft have entered into further agreements to reach a consensus.
DualSense and VR Support
The PS5 version of "Flight Simulator 2024" has some features that the Xbox version lacks. For example, Sony's DualSense controllers are to be fully supported: different ground surfaces are intended to lead to noticeably distinct resistances in the adaptive triggers, and air traffic control announcements will be played through the gamepad's speakers. Even support for Sony's PS VR2 headset is planned, but it will not be available at launch. VR fans will instead have to wait for an update that is scheduled to be released next year.

According to Neumann, Sony's interest in "Flight Simulator" contributed to the strategic shift at Microsoft: at the beginning of last year, in-house productions appeared on the Sony console for the first time. First came "Sea of Thieves", "Hi-Fi Rush", "Pentiment", and "Grounded" to PlayStation, later followed by the open-world racing game "Forza Horizon 5", among others. The remaster of "Gears of War" was released directly on the Sony console at launch.
Not all Xbox games are available on PlayStation yet: "Starfield" and "Avowed", for example, remain exclusive. Sony itself does not release its productions on Xbox, but it usually brings them to PC with a time delay.
