iOS 26.2: Apple releases second Release Candidate
Apple releases second Release Candidate for iOS 26.2. This indicates the fixing of critical bugs. The final version could be released this week.

The probably last major iOS update of the year, iOS 26.2, is taking a little longer: Apple instead released a second Release Candidate of the update for the iPhone operating system on Monday evening German time. The Californians have not yet revealed what exactly has been changed in RC2. However, it is considered certain that one or more critical errors will be fixed. It remains open when the final release can be expected.
RC2 carries the build number 23C54. This has therefore only increased minimally compared to the first release candidate from the previous week (23C52). It can be read in forums that RC2 is said to fix a bug that displays overly bright icons during folder animation on the home screen. There is also talk of a bug fix for a crash of the springboard – i.e., the home screen interface – and a fix for a problem with the automatic screen brightness setting.
Fine-tuning and new features
iOS 26.2 provides further fine-tuning of the operating system but also includes some new features. AI-powered live translation is coming to the European Union with the update. Improved menu animations have been observed with the Liquid Glass design, and the transparency of the clock on the lock screen can be adjusted. Liquid Glass is now also making its way into the Measure app. With AirDrop, there will be the option to generate one-time codes in the future, which will then enable transfers for 30 days. And the Reminders app can now optionally set itself more prominently via an alarm.

Smaller innovations are also available in Apple Music (offline lyrics), Podcasts (automatic chapters, mentions of other podcasts, link access), Freeform (now supports tables), Passwords (management of websites without password storage), and for Accessibility (notifications light up the entire screen and not just the flash LED on the back).
An RC2 is not unusual. In the previous year, with iOS 18.2, Apple followed the same pattern. At that time, it only took two days after the RC2 for the final release to appear. Thus, a release this Wednesday seems quite likely.
