Since October, ARD media library content has been linked on Zattoo. Now ZDF content is also coming to the IPTV service.

The ZDF media library is moving into Zattoo. Just weeks after ARD made its content available via linking on the IP TV platform, ZDF programs can now also be viewed. On the Zattoo homepage, for example, the Amazon series "Rings of Power," which is available in the ZDF media library, is currently being suggested.

As with ARD, this works technically as a link. This means that Zattoo does not host the ZDF formats itself but only integrates them into the recommendation carousels. Clicking on a ZDF content will redirect you to the ZDF website or, on mobile, to the ZDF app.

"For us as a public service media provider, a key goal is to make content as easily accessible as possible. The cooperation with Zattoo is another consistent and pioneering step in this direction," says Florian Kumb from ZDF. "Our vision of a digital ZDF offering for everyone is thus strengthened – with convenient operation, simple navigation, and greater reach into society." The linking works in the browser, in the apps for Android and iOS, as well as on Android TVs and Fire TV devices.

The linking of content in Zattoo fundamentally differs from the approach of the ProSiebenSat.1 platform Joyn, which embedded content from public service broadcasters natively into its apps without permission at the beginning of the year. ARD resisted this and finally succeeded in ProSiebenSat.1, ending the practice in March.

Zattoo CEO Roger Elsener sees the added value of the ZDF linking in "simplicity and clarity," which consumers desire in the face of an increasingly complex offering landscape. The agreement with ZDF is another milestone in the effort to provide as much content as possible via the Zattoo platform.
