Google Pixel 9 Pro: Extended Repair Program Due to Display Problems

Google has announced a new extended repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL after the company found that "problems may occur with a limited number of Google Pixel 9 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro XL devices." The company is also offering a separate program for the foldable 9 Pro Fold, without going into detail.

"Your Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL may be eligible for this program." According to Google, the prerequisite is the appearance of a vertical line on the screen that runs from bottom to top. The program also covers screen flickering on Pixel 9 Pro devices.

As the company explains, other display or other problems may also be covered by the program under certain circumstances. However, Google does not provide specific details. The support is valid for up to 3 years from the original purchase date. Owners of a Pixel 9 Pro or 9 Pro XL can check on Google's website whether their device is eligible for the promotion. Devices with cracked screens or other damage may not be eligible.

Replacement Device if Necessary

In addition, Google has launched a separate "extended warranty program" for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. As the reason for the program, Google writes that it has "determined that problems may occur with a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices that affect the device's functionality." Unfortunately, Google does not provide more specifics, but it could also be related to display defects.

In both cases, affected individuals can receive a free repair from December 8th, or a replacement device in the case of the Fold. Depending on the location and eligibility, customers can receive a replacement online, in person at a Google Store, or at a walk-in center that can authorize an online replacement. Google recommends checking the support options to see which online and in-store options are available at all.

Most recently, Google had initiated repair programs for some of its Pixel models due to battery problems. In April, the company launched a free battery replacement program for Pixel 7a devices, admitting that the batteries in some devices can swell. Later, Google also confirmed battery problems with the Pixel 6a, for which the manufacturer released a software update in July to reduce battery capacity due to potential overheating issues. Users who notice a swollen battery in their Pixel devices should study the guidelines in the support section and contact customer service.
