Small e-book reader carries smartphones on its back

The Chinese manufacturer Xteink is selling an unusually small e-book reader. The idea behind the X4 is that it is more compact than modern smartphones, so it can attach to their back. Using magnets, it holds onto iPhones or current Google Pixel models.
The Xteink X4 is primarily intended to be easier to store on the go. However, it always functions as a standalone device, meaning it doesn't need a connection to the smartphone. For models without rear magnets, the manufacturer offers attachable magnetic strips.
Compact with a 4.3-inch screen
The e-book reader uses a 4.3-inch E-Ink display, which can only show black and white. 800Â Ă— 480 pixels result in a pixel density of 220 ppi.
The device is 114 mm high, 69 mm wide, and 5.9 mm deep. This means it slightly exceeds the camera bump on a current iPhone without a case. The weight is 74 grams.

The features are simple: The display does not support touch and has no backlight. Operation is via buttons. Inside, there is an ESP32 controller with 128 MB of RAM. E-books are stored on a microSD memory card; a 32 GB card is included.
Xteink installs its own operating system, without support for third-party apps. There is no German localization, but an English system language. The e-book reader can open EPUB and TXT files.

The battery has a capacity of 650 mAh and is expected to last up to 14 days with one to three hours of daily reading time. Charging is done via USB-C. For wireless data transfer, the e-book reader can connect to other devices via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Not here before Christmas
The Xteink X4 costs 69 US dollars plus 8 US dollars for shipping, which is about 66 Euros. In addition, there is import sales tax of 19 percent for shipping to Germany, totaling just under 80 Euros. Delivery is scheduled to begin on December 24th. Currently, there is still a 10 percent discount coupon. Alternatively, the e-book reader can be pre-ordered via Aliexpress.
