The developers of the privacy-focused Linux distribution Tails have released version 7.3.1. Essentially, they have updated the core components to the latest versions.
The release announcement for Tails 7.3.1 therefore only lists the updated program versions. The Tor Browser is now at version 15.0.3 and is based on Firefox ESR 140.6. The Tor client comes in version 0.4.8.21, while Thunderbird 140.5.0 (the ESR version) is included. According to the changelog, the firmware repository is also at the Debian Trixie level as of 11/11/2025.
The project maintainers skipped version 7.3 of Tails. They went directly to version 7.3.1 because a security vulnerability in a software library that Tails includes was fixed during the preparations. To incorporate the fix, they immediately started the release process for Tails 7.3.1. However, the Tails developers do not specify which library the vulnerability was found in.
Updated Images
The new images are available on the Tails download servers. The project also provides BitTorrent links to offer the download in the peer-to-peer network without relying on servers. As usual, images for transferring to USB sticks are available. But the Tails project also provides ISO images for burning to DVD or for use in a virtual machine.

With Tails, for example, on a USB stick, you can start foreign computers with a protected environment. Tails emphasizes anonymous web browsing. By using the Tor network, it is easier not to leave unintentionally traceable traces.
Tails 7.2 was released in mid-November and also essentially featured version updates for the included programs. In addition, the developers also fixed some problems and annoyances; for example, they stopped the mail program Thunderbird from sending telemetry data to Mozilla.
