End for Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, and Archer: Netflix Germany will no longer offer the first five series from the Star Trek universe starting January 8, 2026. With the usual four-week advance notice, Netflix has been displaying corresponding messages in its clients since this week. The series will essentially move to Paramount+.
For Star Trek fans, this marks the end of an era, as since 2016, the entire television canon from 1966 to 2005, from "Star Trek" to "Star Trek: Enterprise," has been available on Netflix, including the first animated series. This also included the convincingly remastered HD versions of "The Next Generation" and the first series, known in Germany as "Raumschiff Enterprise." "Star Trek: Enterprise" was already produced in HD, while Netflix only showed "Voyager" and "Deep Space Nine" in slightly enhanced SD versions of the original television broadcast.
Alternatives: Paramount+, DVD, and Some Television
The mentioned series will, according to current information, be fully available via subscription only on Paramount+ from January, with individual seasons also available on Pluto.tv. Amazon Prime Video offers them for purchase as streams, with seasons costing around 20 Euros each. The classics are also still available on DVD and, where applicable, Blu-ray, sometimes even as new releases. And on linear television, "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine" are currently airing on Tele 5.

The apparent reason for the first Trek canon disappearing from Netflix Germany is that Paramount wants to primarily feature the series on its platform. Generally, licenses for series must be renewed annually. In the USA, Netflix has had to gradually give up Star Trek since 2019; in 2022, "The Next Generation" was the last to disappear from the streaming market leader's offering there. At that time, Paramount+ launched internationally. In addition to Star Trek, some CBS series such as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" are also affected by the deletions on Netflix Germany.
