GPT-5.2: New AI model from OpenAI to better support office work
Just one month after GPT-5.1, a new AI model from ChatGPT developers is coming. GPT-5.2 is said to be able to produce better tables, presentations, and code.

OpenAI has introduced a new AI model. GPT-5.2 is primarily intended to improve the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for office work but is also said to be excellently suited for AI agents and their longer workflows. The ChatGPT developers promise "even more economic benefit for people" with it. According to OpenAI, GPT-5.2 is "better for creating spreadsheets, presentations, programming, evaluating images, understanding longer contexts, using tools, and editing complex, multi-stage projects".
The introduction of the new AI model comes just about a month after the last version, which OpenAI made available in mid-November. GPT-5.1 was supposed to be "smarter and more fun" than its predecessors. Interacting with the AI model should continue to be fun, but GPT-5.2 feels better in everyday use, according to OpenAI, as it is more structured and reliable, according to the company's announcement.
Three versions of GPT-5.2 with fewer hallucinations
As usual, OpenAI is offering the new AI model in three variations. GPT-5.2 Instant is suitable for everyday tasks at work and for learning and is said to be able to present content more clearly. GPT-5.2 Thinking is intended to solve more complex tasks that require reasoning, such as summarizing longer documents, analyzing uploaded files, or step-by-step processing of mathematical or logical problems. GPT-5.2 Pro is finally said to be the "smartest and most trustworthy option for difficult questions where waiting for a high-quality answer is worthwhile". This version is also said to show fewer serious errors.

Because even the new AI model is not immune to errors. However, according to OpenAI, GPT-5.2 hallucinates less than GPT-5.1. The ChatGPT developers want to prove this by asking the same questions to the AI models. Accordingly, the answers from GPT-5.2 Thinking were 30 percent less erroneous than those from GPT-5.1 Thinking. According to OpenAI tests, the error rate drops from 8.8 to 6.2 percent. This shows that the new AI model offers higher reliability for everyday knowledge work.
Adult mode and new AI image generator later
In addition, OpenAI announced that the company is testing an AI model for age assessment. This is intended to automatically activate certain protective measures for users under 18 years of age to restrict access to sensitive content. Fidji Simo, head of apps at OpenAI, explained according to The Verge that the company is beginning to test in certain countries how well it can identify teenagers "and not mistakenly identify adults". This is necessary before they introduce the "adult mode" of ChatGPT, which they expect in the first quarter of 2026.
However, there was no mention of a new or improved AI image generator. Google has caught up enormously here this year. According to our tests, "Nano Banana" is the best free AI image editor. The AI image generator, also called "Gemini 2.5 Flash Image", recently also received a Pro version after Google released Gemini 3: the Nano Banana Pro based on Gemini 3 Pro. OpenAI is reportedly waiting until January for a corresponding reaction, reports TechCrunch. Then a new AI model with better images, higher speed, and improved personality is supposed to appear. However, OpenAI did not want to confirm this yesterday.
GPT-5.2 initially available in paid subscriptions
Initially, OpenAI has focused on its new language model. GPT-5.2 is now available in all three variants (Instant, Thinking, and Pro) for ChatGPT, initially in the paid subscriptions (Plus, Pro, Go, Business, and Enterprise). However, the rollout is gradual, the company emphasizes. If GPT-5.2 is not yet available within ChatGPT, you should try again later.
GPT-5.1 will be available to paying ChatGPT users for another three months before the previous AI model is discontinued. However, this does not apply to the APIs for developers. The corresponding APIs will continue to be available even for GPT-5 and GPT-4.1, and there are currently no plans to end support for these versions.
