Back to the roots for Larian Studios: After "Baldur's Gate 3", the RPG specialists are continuing their "Divinity" series. There's a first trailer.

With their upcoming role-playing game "Divinity", Larian Studios even wants to top their magnum opus "Baldur's Gate 3": The title, presented with a render trailer at the Game Awards, is set in the world of Rivellon, like the previous "Divinity" games. Larian has been developing games in this fantasy world for over 20 years – the series began with "Divine Divinity" in 2002, and players were last able to visit Rivellon in 2017 in "Divinity: Original Sin 2".
Then came the big breakthrough into the gaming mainstream with "Baldur's Gate 3". The bar for "Divinity" is accordingly high. Larian shows no interest in dampening these expectations: it is the most ambitious part of the Belgian studio to date, according to a press release.
"Unprecedented Scope"
With "Divinity", Larian aims to offer "unprecedented scope and depth" – a remarkable statement when one has released one of the most extensive and best RPGs of the past decade with "Baldur's Gate 3". Prior knowledge of previous Larian titles is not necessary, Larian writes in its statement. However, those who have played "Original Sin" and "Original Sin 2" can look forward to a deeper understanding and continuity.
The trailer for "Divinity" consists of decidedly adult render scenes that seem to deliberately push the boundaries of good taste. It's not for nothing that the video warns at the beginning that it is only suitable for adults. However, the video doesn't offer much insight into the story and gameplay, and there's no release date yet.

The recent "Divinity" games played quite similarly to "Baldur's Gate 3": players control a group of adventurers from a top-down perspective, and combat is turn-based. Further parallels can be found in the pointed dialogues, the ability to talk to animals, and the vast freedom of choice. So, those who only know Larian from "Baldur's Gate 3" can also look forward to "Divinity".
