"Star Wars" and "Tomb Raider": Most important announcements from the Game Awards
The Game Awards 2025 brought a variety of unexpected announcements, including racing and role-playing games for "Star Wars" and a new "Tomb Raider".

At the Game Awards, hosted by Geoff Keighley, new announcements are the real highlight for many viewers. In the night of December 11th to 12th, 2026, there were particularly many revelations. These include a "Star Wars" role-playing game in the "KOTOR" style titled "Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic", two "Tomb Raider" titles, and "Total War: Warhammer 40,000". The most important announcements at a glance.
"Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic"
In addition to the racing game "Star Wars: Galactic Racer", Disney also announced a new installment in the popular "Knights of the Old Republic" (KOTOR) series. "Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic" is being developed for PC and consoles by the Canadian team "Arcanaut". The team is led by "KOTOR" and "Mass Effect" veteran Casey Hudson. There is neither a release date nor meaningful gameplay scenes for the title, which is being created with Unreal Engine 5. In the trailer, a pilot merely lands on a rainy planet and draws her lightsaber.

"Tomb Raider: Catalyst"
Lara Croft also returns in a double pack. In addition to another remake of Part 1 ("Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis", 2026), publisher Amazon also has a new adventure in the works. "Tomb Raider: Catalyst" will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam and is aimed at a "modern audience". It sends the adventurous protagonist to northern India. Lara encounters mysterious forces guarding ancient secrets "as the ancient world dramatically collides with the present". Both titles are being created in Unreal Engine 5.

"Divinity"
The new role-playing game "Divinity" from Larian Studios is said to surpass even "Baldur’s Gate 3" in terms of scope and depth. The title presented at the Game Awards is also set in the world of Rivellon. The adult-only render trailer with crude depictions of violence does not yet allow any conclusions about the plot, gameplay, or supported platforms. There is also no release date yet.

"Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons"
Wizards of the Coast has entrusted its new studio, "Invoke Studios" with the development of "Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons". The action adventure, planned for 2027, puts players in the role of Kaatri, who fights dark forces with supernatural magic. The title is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. Gameplay scenes are not expected until summer 2026.

"Forest 3"
In the survival game "Forest 3" by Endnight Games, dark tentacle monsters inhabit the swamp into which the player crashes with their spaceship at the beginning. Fitting the game's science fiction scenario, instruments such as a grappling hook attached to the shoulder are already visible in the trailer. This is likely to be used for salvaging heavy objects. "Total War: Warhammer 40,000"
"Total War: Warhammer 40,000" by Creative Assembly is all about the mix of galactic turn-based strategy and apocalyptic real-time battles. The announcement only briefly shows the actual hustle and bustle from a bird's-eye view, where players conquer planets, improve their fleet, and manage resources. Players can choose between the factions "Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari". According to the developers, the release date for unspecified platforms is "still a little way off".

"Control: Resonant"
The gritty third-person shooter "Control" is also getting a sequel. In "Control: Resonant", FBC agent Dylan Faden fights paranormal threats that want to plunge Manhattan into chaos with new abilities. Dylan is not only looking for his sister but also exploring his identity and the internal workings of the FBC. The game will be released in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

"No Law"
Cyberpunk fans might also enjoy "No Law". The role-playing game announced by "The Ascent" developer Neon Giant also shows the action in the urban neon backdrops of Port Desire from a first-person perspective. The creators promise a lot of freedom when exploring, infiltrating, and assassinating. The game is expected to be released soon for PC and for the consoles Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

"The Free Shepherd"
"The Free Shepherd" by Frame Interactive offers players a slightly different concept. Similar to old herding games for 8-bit computers, you keep a flock of sheep together as a dog. This time, however, it takes place in contemporary, idyllic 3D graphics on green and snowy hills. Friends of peaceful adventures will have to be patient, however. According to the Steam Store, a release is not planned until 2027.

"Bradley the Badger"
The jump-and-run classic "Super Mario Odyssey" will probably never be officially released for PC, but the similarly varied "Bradley the Badger" is also planned for Steam. The cheerful protagonist is transported into various unfinished video games and can transform into a multitude of forms. In "Cyberbadger", he rolls up magnetic walls as a cuboid, and in "The Last Badger", he plows through undead monsters as a pickup truck. As a ball of various sizes, he rolls through narrow gaps during puzzles. Behind the game is "Mario + Rabbids" developer Davide Soliani. "Day 4 Night Studios" also plans a release for consoles, but without a date yet.
