GeForce graphics cards: Nvidia to massively reduce GPU production
According to rumors, Nvidia is reducing the production of its GeForce GPUs by 30 to 40 percent. Two models are reportedly to be primarily affected.

GeForce graphics cards could become significantly scarcer and therefore more expensive in 2026. According to rumors from China, Nvidia intends to have around 30 to 40 percent fewer graphics chips produced for GeForce graphics cards in the first half of 2026 than in the first half of 2025.
This is reported in the Chinese boardchannel forum, as benchlife.info from Hong Kong reports. benchlife.info supports the rumors with statements from graphics card manufacturers, according to which the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and the 16-GByte version of the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti are reportedly to be affected. The website is usually considered well-informed.
From a manufacturer's perspective, the focus on the two models would make sense: the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti uses the same GPU as the GeForce RTX 5080, albeit in a partially deactivated form. The memory capacity is identical. However, the RTX 5080 is around 300 Euros more expensive, promising a higher margin than the RTX 5070 Ti. The 16-GByte version of the RTX 5060 Ti, on the other hand, is likely to be a niche product.
It could still take months for a shortage to reach retail. A silicon wafer goes through several thousand work steps in production, which takes several weeks. In addition, there are shipping routes.

Memory shortage also for graphics cards
The shortage is said to be related to the scarce GDDR7 memory for the graphics cards. Previously, it was already stated that Nvidia will no longer sell GPUs and DRAM modules bundled to card manufacturers as usual.
As a company with the highest market capitalization in the world, Nvidia should actually have enough market power to secure sufficient memory. However, interest in it is likely to be low, as Nvidia makes much more money with AI accelerators for data centers. In the last quarter, server revenue (including network technology) was a good 51 billion US dollars, while that from GeForce GPUs was just under 4.3 billion.
In this year's financial reports, Nvidia no longer even mentioned GeForce revenue records. The focus is entirely on AI.
benchlife.info mentions in passing that further price increases are expected for Radeon graphics cards at the beginning of 2026. Nominally, adjustments have already been made, but these have so far only affected the Radeon RX 9060 XT in retail. In the case of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, AMD discount campaigns have offset the increased costs. Some models have even become cheaper in recent weeks.
