2025 is almost over, and in a few hours a new year will begin with 2026. It certainly won't be boring again. After this year, we would probably all have nothing against a little less excitement. In the past year, an unrelenting war continued to rage in Ukraine, and it wasn't just in the USA that Donald Trump caused chaos after his return to the White House. Here in Germany, we have had a new government since spring, and things haven't been running smoothly so far. In the IT world, AI once again overshadowed everything, but now more is being said about finances than about the technology itself. At least the global shift away from fossil fuels is progressing, even if it's still not fast enough.

The next year begins in the first week of January with the CES electronics trade show in Las Vegas; traditionally, there will be not only exciting innovations but also a lot of curiosities to see. Financial markets will likely continue to closely watch how Nvidia and the AI industry as a whole will develop. In the summer, North America will host the largest football World Cup to date, with Germany, Austria, and Switzerland among the 48 participants. It is absolutely certain that there will be a partial solar eclipse on August 12. In the fall, one of the most anticipated computer games, "GTA VI", is scheduled to be released. heise will, of course, report on this and all other news as usual.

The entire team of heise online and the editorial staff of c't, iX, Mac & i, c't Fotografie, Make, Bestenlisten by Techstage and Telepolis, as well as heise Security, heise Developer, and heise Autos wish you a peaceful and joyful year 2026. We are keeping our fingers crossed that you will successfully implement your resolutions and that your wishes will come true. We also wish you good health – or at least a speedy recovery.
