The FreeStyle+ is a compact projector with the dimensions of a small spotlight. Samsung introduced the first version of the DLP projector in 2022, and now the Korean manufacturer is releasing the long-awaited update.

The special feature of the Plus variant is that you can project the image onto any color-neutral surface, and the AI in the projector ensures that the projection hangs smoothly in front of it on a kind of virtual screen. As we could see in a technical demonstration, this works on any surface and even in a room corner; the image practically floats freely in front of it in the room.

The function called 3D Auto Keystone is part of AI OptiScreen, which also ensures a focused projection at all times and is supposed to calculate out colors or patterns in the projection surface. If there is a screen or a frame, AI OptiScreen automatically fits the image into it.

The new mobile projector is also said to shine twice as brightly as before. According to Samsung, it achieves 430 lumens, which actually corresponds to double the light output that we measured in the first edition of the FreeStyle. The speakers in the new device are also said to provide voluminous sound again.

Samsung has integrated its Tizen OS operating system, and thanks to the interface familiar from Samsung TVs with various streaming apps, you can use the projector without external sources. It also includes Samsung's own TV service, Samsung TV Plus, as well as Samsung's Gaming Hub, through which you can play games directly from the projector without external players.

The connections on the device were a weak point at the time: a cable connected via mini-HDMI to the projector body quickly threw the device unbalanced; the FreeStyle was only charged via the lighter USB-C cable. How it looks with the FreeStyle+ will be shown by our test.

Samsung is presenting the FreeStyle+ for the first time at CES in Las Vegas. The mobile projector is expected to go on sale in the first half of the year; Samsung has not yet commented on the price. The first FreeStyle started at 800 Euros at the time and still costs about half today. The new FreeStyle+ variant is likely to be in the 800 Euro range as well.
