At CES, Asus unveiled the ROG Xreal R1 display glasses. They can be connected via a USB-C cable to PCs, smartphones, game consoles, or handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally and project their content into the field of view. The virtual display size corresponds to a 171-inch screen at a distance of four meters. Asus positions the glasses as a portable pocket monitor and a virtual second screen for home use, which requires no physical space.
Like other display glasses, the ROG Xreal R1 uses a semi-transparent birdbath optics, fundamentally differing from VR glasses that place an opaque display in front of the eyes. The weight is correspondingly low at 91 grams.

The product was developed together with display glasses manufacturer Xreal and is apparently based on its current flagship Xreal Pro One. Like it, it uses OLED microdisplays with Full HD resolution and offers a field of view of 57 degrees. New to the ROG Xreal R1 is the doubled frame rate of 240 Hertz. The Xreal Pro One is limited to 120 Hertz.
A control dock for multiple sources
The virtual display follows head movements, but can also be decoupled from them. However, integrated 6DoF tracking, which would allow the display to be fixed in space, is missing, just as it is with the Xreal Pro One.
The lenses, like all current Xreal models, adapt to changing light conditions and regulate transparency accordingly. Alternatively, the desired transparency level can also be set manually. For audio output, a speaker solution from Bose is used, as with the Xreal Pro One.
The scope of delivery of the ROG Xreal R1 includes a control dock intended for home use, which allows the simultaneous connection of multiple sources. For example, you can switch between a PC and a game console at the touch of a button. The control dock has two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port.
The Asus ROG Xreal R1 is expected to be released in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at the end of the second quarter of 2026. The price is not yet known. Since the product is technically on par with the Xreal One Pro and also comes with a dock, the device is likely to be priced higher than the Xreal One Pro, which costs 689 Euros in Germany.
Xreal also presented two new products at CES: the entry-level model Xreal 1S and the battery dock Xreal Neo. The collaboration with Asus ROG is already Xreal's second cooperation with an external partner. Xreal is currently working with Google on Project Aura, a display glasses based on Android XR, which will be released later this year.
