The organic display of the new TV wallpaper W6 hangs on the wall like a poster. It is nine millimeters thin and apparently has a new mounting system – the first model from 2017 was magnetically attached to metallic rails on the wall, which held, but seemed a bit risky for an 8000 Euro device.

The Wallpaper W6 features a new OLED evo panel with a tandem structure consisting of two blue, one green, and one red light-emitting layer. Panel developer LG Display calls the structure Primary RGB Tandem, its sister company LG Electronics calls it "Hyper Radiant Color Technology". It is now found in the current WOLED TVs with evo panels of the W6 and G6 series (except for models with 97 and 48 inches) as well as in the 77- and 83-inch models of the C6 series. The smaller C6 models and the other OLED TVs from the B6 range use a third-generation OLED EX panel, which is slightly less bright.

For the RGB tandem structure of the WOLED, panel manufacturer LG Display has replaced the yellow light-emitting layer with red and green ones on the blue.

LG has taken the next step in PC monitors with OLED displays and omitted the white subpixels in the WOLED. In the panels, now called Primary RGB Tandem OLED Version 2, red, green, and blue subpixels are arranged side-by-side in stripes, as is known from LCDs. This benefits color accuracy, even under Windows.

LG Display has increased the aperture ratio and thus the light transmission per pixel (aperture rate). In the 27-inch monitor, the manufacturer was able to easily accommodate eight million pixels (4K, 3840 × 2160 pixels) thanks to this. LG Electronics apparently does not yet use the new pixel structure for TVs, perhaps because the individual pixels are larger anyway, a larger area needs to be illuminated, and the individual pixels can hardly be distinguished from a living room distance.

However, this is different for monitors, given the shorter viewing distance. But since LG Display explicitly advertises the new tandem RGB structure for TVs as well and promises higher luminance, it is likely to find its way into televisions in the foreseeable future.

The fourth-generation OLED TV panels achieve particularly rich colors and high luminance, yet LG has managed to slightly reduce their power consumption. Thanks to a new coating, the evo panels are said to reflect ambient light hardly at all.

Low reflections are particularly important to maintain the rich black of OLED TVs and thus their excellent contrast. The new displays are said to reflect less than 0.24 cd/m2 when illuminated with ring lights up to 500 lux bright, while also retaining their color saturation.

The top model, Wallpaper W6, is controlled wirelessly and can therefore be placed freely in the room; however, the Wallpaper requires its own power connection. All other connections are located in the Zero Connect Box, which can be placed up to 10 meters away from the TV screen.

The other models from the G6, C6, and B6 series have their connections directly in the TV housing.

All LG OLED TVs can update 4K content at 165 Hertz, they support variable refresh rates via G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync, as well as the low-latency ALLM mode; LG promises a sound speed of 0.1 milliseconds for pixel refresh. Only the 97-inch G6 model is not quite as optimal for gaming due to poorer values.

All TVs use LG's webOS as their operating system, they offer all common streaming apps on their home screen and can be personalized with AI Concierge. The TV then only displays content that the logged-in viewer typically uses. You can control the TV with the remote control or by voice, with a microphone located in both the remote control and the TV itself. If you don't want to use the hands-free function, you can deactivate the far-field microphone.

The webOS TVs also integrate Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot, so you can ask questions about the current program or video, or general questions, and the AI should answer them. However, you have to share some data for this convenience. If you don't want to use LG's smart apps and functions at all, you can disconnect the device from the internet and operate it with content via HDMI or use the built-in TV tuners for linear television. However, all convenience functions will then be unavailable, as will the media libraries or other streaming services.
