Sports watch manufacturer Garmin has announced an expansion of its paid subscription service Connect+, which was launched in early 2025. The subscription price remains unchanged at 9 Euros per month. The basic functions of Garmin Connect will continue to be free of charge.
Nutrition Tracking
As Garmin states in its announcement, Connect+ subscribers will be able to "track their calories and macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates)". Additionally, through the AI function "Active Intelligence", they will receive insights to help them achieve their nutrition goals, according to the manufacturer.
According to the manufacturer, nutrition can be logged directly within the Garmin Connect app along with health and fitness data. This is intended to provide users with "a more holistic overview of their overall well-being".
To log food, users can search for products in a global food database that includes packaged foods, restaurant dishes, and regional specialties, and scan their barcodes. Alternatively, users can use their smartphone camera for AI-powered image recognition to log food. It is also possible to create custom meals and favorite dishes for easier tracking.

Nutrition Reports
According to Garmin, users can generate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports on consumed calories and macronutrient intake. This is intended to help them better understand "how health goals are progressing". Furthermore, according to Garmin, the feature also offers the option to display personalized recommendations for calorie and macronutrient intake based on height, weight, gender, activity level, and average calorie consumption. This can also be adjusted to desired health goals – for example, if one wants to increase daily protein intake.
On compatible Garmin smartwatches, users can get a quick overview of their nutrition and also track their favorite and recently logged foods, the company explains. Additionally, Garmin smartwatches with voice control support allow users to open the nutrition log on their smartwatch via voice command.
In addition to the new nutrition logging feature, the paid Garmin Connect+ includes Garmin Trails, 3D maps, and a Performance Dashboard, among other things. With the latter, users can view and edit graphs to get a more precise impression of their training progress. Garmin Connect+ can be subscribed to monthly for 9 Euros. The company also offers an annual subscription for 90 Euros.
Garmin users who have previously relied on providers like Yazio and similar services might now be tempted by Garmin's offering to have everything from a single source. Incidentally, competitor Amazfit offers such a nutrition tracking function for free in its Zepp app.
