Ryzen AI Halo: AMD's Mini-(PC) Answer to Nvidia's DGX Spark

AMD CEO Lisa Su surprised at her CES keynote with the announcement of a developer kit for AI applications: The mini-PC named Ryzen AI Halo is expected to be available from the second quarter. The name alludes to the technical internals: it features processors from the Ryzen AI Max 300 series, also known as Strix Halo. These chips have a powerful integrated graphics unit and four memory channels instead of the usual, controlling up to 128 GByte of LPDDR5 memory. If these specifications and the concept sound familiar, Nvidia sells its powerful combined processor GB10 in its own mini-PC DGX Spark – also specifically for AI developers.

Nevertheless, there is a crucial difference: while Nvidia's GB10 is exclusively available in its own DGX Spark mini-PC and some nearly identical partner models, AMD has been selling Strix Halo to device manufacturers since early 2025. They are equipping both notebooks and mini-PCs with it – for example, HP with the small Z2 Mini G1a workstation or Framework with its desktop. So, if you want, you can already buy a mini-PC with Strix Halo today. There isn't even a new top model in the newly expanded 2026 lineup.

Focus on Software

When asked about this, AMD's Jason Banta emphasized in an interview with heise that Ryzen AI Halo will come with a pre-installation that includes the latest iterations of the ROCm software stack and other AI tools. AMD had received requests in this direction, but with partner systems, their software configuration cannot be influenced in the same way or updated regularly. Ryzen AI Halo is therefore explicitly to be understood as a specialized machine for software developers and not as another mini-PC for office applications for end customers.

Banta did not rule out that Ryzen AI Halo, analogous to DGX Spark, will also be integrated by partners into their sales channels (or even with customized cases like there). However, nothing is final yet, so interested parties currently only need to keep an eye on AMD itself regarding the pre-order phase.
