The 13-year-old top DSL Fritzbox model 7490 is getting another FritzOS update. The new version 7.62, like 7.60 from early 2025, brings improvements but no new features. Fritz lists two points in the update overview:
- Change: Adjustments to the telephony service of the provider Deutsche Telekom
- Fixed: Stability and security increased
This is primarily a service update for users for whom the old top Fritzbox model is still sufficient after more than a decade. The WLAN router does not seem to be receiving FritzOS 8 and subsequent updates anymore. Among other things, the version brought a revised web interface with new overview pages, as well as improvements for VPN tunnels via Wireguard.
Meanwhile, the update is a welcome sign that the manufacturer Fritz is maintaining its update policy even after its acquisition from Luxembourg and the name change (formerly AVM).

Details unknown
The manufacturer does not comment further on the previous stability problems. In recent months, there have been isolated reports on Reddit and in hardware forums about WLAN and connection problems, the cause of which, however, was unclear. FritzOS 7.62 may address this at the firmware level.
The update can be initiated as usual via the FritzOS web interface. Alternatively, Fritz provides the ISO version via its download server.
