Obsidian Role-Playing Game: "Avowed" Coming to PlayStation

“Avowed” is coming to PlayStation: On February 17, Microsoft and developer Obsidian will bring the role-playing game to PlayStation 5, as announced in a video. “Avowed” has so far been one of the last Xbox exclusives in recent history that are not yet available on Sony's console.

Along with the PlayStation 5 port, “Avowed” will receive some new features on the release date, which will also be integrated into the PC and Xbox versions. These include a “New Game+” game mode and several new playable races, including dwarves. A photo mode will also be introduced.

PlayStation Port One Year After Release

“Avowed” was released almost a year ago to decent reviews. It is the first game in Obsidian's “Pillars of Eternity” universe that is not played from a classic top-down perspective. The combat system was successful, and with some reservations, the open-world design, while the presentation of the story and the dialogues were often criticized. 76 percent of Steam players recommend the title.

In early 2024, Microsoft began releasing many of its exclusive titles on PlayStation – a taboo for years prior. This is part of a strategy shift: Microsoft sees its Xbox division less as a driver of console sales and wants to sell more games instead.

First came “Sea of Thieves,” “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Pentiment,” and “Grounded” to PlayStation, followed later by, among others, the open-world racing game “Forza Horizon 5.” The remaster of “Gears of War” was released on Sony's console directly at launch. Most recently, “Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024” followed. After the release of “Avowed” on PlayStation, one major game from recent years is still missing from Sony's console: the Bethesda role-playing game “Starfield” has not yet been ported.
