Comitis Capital has reached an agreement with Threema Holding AG, the company behind the messenger focused on privacy and security, to purchase the company. Specific goals and backgrounds remain vague, and details of the deal are not yet known. Obviously only the investor changes.
In an announcement, Comitis Capital discusses the purchase of Threema Holding AG. Comitis Capital sees itself as a capital provider that wants to help companies grow. This is also the case with Threema, for which the financial company writes: “We look forward to supporting the business in its next phase of growth and building on the legacy of the trusted brand, leading technology, and uncompromising privacy.”
“Threema occupies a unique position to benefit from the long-term structural growth trends in secure communication, European data sovereignty, and regulatory compliance,” Comitis Capital further explains. “We look forward to working with executives and industry veterans from our network to support the management team in driving Threema's growth and international expansion.”
Messenger with desirable features
Comitis Capital describes Threema's features that are of interest to the financial service provider: Headquartered in Switzerland, Threema serves the growing demand for data sovereignty with its messenger platform. The target group ranges from small to medium-sized enterprises to global corporations by offering a scalable and flexible architecture from enterprise cloud to on-premises installation. In addition, Threema distinguishes itself from the competition through its privacy-by-design philosophy and its zero-knowledge architecture – and by the fact that the software is open source.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in January 2026, Comitis Capital concludes its announcement. An article on this topic has now also been published on the Threema website. According to the article, there has been a change of ownership from the previous Afinum Management GmbH to Comitis Capital GmbH, which also has a strong sense of sustainability.
Nothing will change for Threema users, as Threema announced on Mastodon on Tuesday morning. “Our core values, corporate mission, and management remain unchanged,” the company assured users there.
