For some time now, Samsung has been selling refurbished smartphones in South Korea and the USA. The company has now announced that it is expanding the “Certified Re-Newed program” (CRN) to Germany, France, and Great Britain. The Galaxy S25 devices are the first. However, new devices from regular retail seem to be cheaper in some cases compared to Samsung's refurbished program.
“We are excited to expand our Certified Re-Newed program to European markets to offer our customers more options for purchasing flagship devices,” said Jun Kim, EVP and Head of the Galaxy Value Innovation Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “We hope to contribute to the circular economy while giving more customers the opportunity to experience our latest innovations, including Galaxy AI.”
Warranty like new Galaxy devices
According to Samsung, the certified, refurbished devices undergo an “internal expert inspection and refurbishment process.” This includes “thorough cleaning and over 100 quality checks.” Furthermore, each device is “refurbished using Samsung original components to meet Samsung's high standards for appearance and performance,” it continues.
After refurbishment, CRN devices are packaged in new packaging made from recyclable materials and include the same accessories as a new device. In addition, these devices have the same warranty as new Galaxy models, differentiating them from refurbished or used devices from third-party providers, according to the manufacturer. Furthermore, CRN devices receive new IMEI numbers and are “updated with the latest software to ensure security and long-term usability.”

Prices: wait and see
Samsung's Certified Re-Newed website currently offers three Galaxy S25 models – the S25 Ultra, S25 Plus, and the base model. The S25 Edge model, which was released later, is not yet included. For the refurbished Galaxy S25 Ultra with 256 GB of storage, Samsung charges from 1239 Euros. The Plus model with 256 GB costs from 979 Euros, and the Galaxy S25 costs from 769 Euros.

The curious thing about these prices is that Samsung is offering its new S25 series models for significantly less than the RRP in some cases, as they are likely to be replaced by the S26 series in a few weeks. The manufacturer charges from 1099 euros for the Ultra, 819 euros for the Plus, and 669 euros for the small S25 in its new product store, which is less than in the Certified Re-Newed store. There appears to be an error here, which Samsung was not aware of when asked by heise online. Customers should wait.
Apart from Samsung's official channels for smartphone purchases, retailers are sometimes offering the S25 devices for much less.
