Earlier this month, Samsung released details about the January 2026 security patch for its Android and Wear OS devices and began distributing it to its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Now, the company has started to gradually push it to the Galaxy Watches as well, with the Galaxy Watch 5 surprisingly being the first in line.

As SamMobile reports, the Galaxy Watch 5 in the “Wi-Fi + Bluetooth” variant is apparently the first model to receive the January patch. The update is 147.29 MB in size and carries the firmware version R910XXU1DYL6.

According to Samsung's Security Information, the January security patch fixes a total of 55 security vulnerabilities. In addition to the vulnerabilities fixed by Google, which we have already summarized in a separate report, the current “Security Maintenance Release” (SMR) also includes patches from Samsung. The new update provides better protection for sensitive user data, such as fitness and health information, against potential attacks.

Samsung points out that some patches provided by chipset manufacturers may not be included in the security update package for the month. According to the company, these “device-specific patches” will be delivered in future security update packages as soon as they are available.

To receive the new software version on the Galaxy Watch 5, you need to open the Galaxy Wearable app and navigate to the watch settings. Here, open “Watch software update” and tap “Download and install”.

In addition to the Galaxy Watch 5, Samsung will gradually distribute the patch for the Watch 4, which, among other things, received the major update to One UI 8 Watch in December, and newer models. “The delivery time for security patches may vary depending on the region and model,” Samsung explains.
