After three years of waiting, update 1.4.5 for "Terraria" is about to be released: on January 27th, developer Re-Logic plans to release the latest and arguably last major update for its cult sandbox game – although it wouldn't be the first time that development continues even after a "final" update. In any case, crossplay, i.e. the ability to play together with players on other platforms, is to be added at a later date.

Update 1.4.5 is at least the first "Terraria" update since September 2022, when Re-Logic released the "Labor of Love" patch. Since then, the "Bigger & Boulder" update, which is now ready for release, has grown with more and more new features, pushing the release further and further back.
New weapons, new bosses
The new features of "Terraria 1.4.5" include new weapons, new enemies, new boss music, NPC portraits, and the ability to transform into various animals. In addition, you can now also craft with items that are in all nearby chests – so it is no longer absolutely necessary to move every raw material into your inventory or to open a specific chest. An overview of the quite extensive changes is provided by the official wiki of "Terraria". However, it is conceivable that Re-Logic has hidden a few more surprises in the code. The complete changelog is to be published upon release.

"Terraria" is a sandbox game in which players explore a 2D map, mine resources, and engage with various enemies. Compared to "Minecraft", "Terraria" is not only 2D but also significantly more combat-heavy. The game was released on Steam in May 2011, making it almost 15 years old by now.
To this day, "Terraria" is considered one of the greatest success stories in the indie industry. Since its launch, "Terraria" has sold over 60 million copies – one reason why Re-Logic can afford to continue working on new content more than a decade after its release. On Steam, the sandbox game has over a million reviews, 97 percent of which are positive.
