First product in over a year: Sonos introduces Amp Multi
Sonos has introduced the Amp Multi: The large digital amplifier is primarily aimed at advanced users and professionals.

More than a year after the introduction of the last hardware product, Sonos has unveiled the Amp Multi. The device marks the end of a product hiatus during which the company primarily focused on fixing software glitches that arose in May 2024 due to the premature release of the unfinished Sonos app. This plunged the company into a deep crisis.
Rack Mounting
The new device is an eight-channel amplifier specifically designed for use in racks. It joins components already on the market, such as the Amp, introduced in 2018 [Link auf Beitrag 2491688], and the Port. These products are intended to help make Sonos's ecosystem more flexible and enable customers to integrate their conventional speakers into the Wi-Fi system. The Amp Multi supports rack mounting and can be “hidden” in homes.

According to Sonos, the new amplifier can cover up to four audio zones. Technically, the product is based on Class D amplifiers with GaN technology and Post-Filter Feedback (PFFB). This is intended to ensure high efficiency and precise audio reproduction. Sonos specifies the power output as 125 W per channel. Despite the relatively high power output, the compact housing does not require a fan and instead uses a thermally optimized design for passive cooling, the company explains.

Furthermore, the Amp Multi features the “ProTune” function, which is intended to enable experts to “optimize the sound for low-impedance passive speakers” and adjust playback to the placement and room acoustics. ProTune also offers a range of manual controls, including a 10-band parametric equalizer and adjustable level and delay settings for individually customizable sound.

In addition to Ethernet, the device features Wi-Fi 6 and support for Apple's AirPlay 2. It can be configured flexibly, allowing each output to be assigned to any zone, Sonos explains. According to the manufacturer, the amplifier is expected to go on sale in the coming months. It will only be available from Sonos experts and not through the Sonos website. The company has not yet announced a price.
