DMEA, the largest German-language trade fair in the field of digital health, will take place in Berlin for the last time in 2026. The reason is a strategic reorientation, announced the Federal Association for Health IT (Bundesverband Gesundheits-IT, bvitg), which organizes DMEA. The association has not yet announced the new location of the trade fair from 2027 onwards. Meanwhile, Messe Berlin announced that from 2027, together with the industry association Bitkom, it will launch a new trade fair about Digital Health at the Berlin location.
According to a press release from the bvitg, the change of location is primarily intended to consider the growth of DMEA in recent years. "The change of location opens up new opportunities for us to align the format more innovatively, internationally, and with a future-oriented approach," emphasizes Sascha Raddatz, Managing Director of the bvitg.
Ecky Oesterhoff, board member of the bvitg, is more specific in an article for the industry portal kma Online. With the current 870 exhibitors, 470 speakers, and over 20,000 visitors at DMEA, the Berlin trade fair venue has simply reached its limits. DMEA is now not only important for the German-speaking region but is gaining relevance in Europe. The aim is to continuously expand the English-speaking part of the fair for international visitors.
New Digital Health Trade Fair Announced
The fact that Messe Berlin and the bvitg have not only ended their cooperation for reasons of strategic reorientation is suggested by the simultaneous announcement of a competing event. In the same timeframe as the DMEA, which has been held in Berlin until now, "Smart Health Europe" will take place on the Berlin exhibition grounds from 2027, Messe Berlin announced.
The trade fair, jointly organized by Messe Berlin and Bitkom, aims to become "Europe's new leading event for Digital Health" and will be more internationally oriented overall. The goal is to become "the central meeting point for the European Digital Health Community," writes Messe Berlin.
Smart Health Europe would thus become the European counterpart to Smart Health Asia, which will take place for the first time in Singapore in the summer of 2026.
