Fritzboxes 7690 and 5690 get FritzOS 8.20 and 6670 Cable 8.21
Fritz is supplying three more routers with current firmware. FritzOS 8.20 and 8.21 modernize, among other things, the web interface.

FritzOS 8.20 and its hotfix version 8.21 are now available for three more Fritz WLAN routers. The fiber optic Fritzbox 5690 and the DSL model 7690 will receive FritzOS 8.20. The cable router Fritzbox 6670 Cable will get FritzOS 8.21.
The feature set is identical for both versions. As usual, the manufacturer speaks of more than 40 new features and improvements, including a fail-safe and a revised online monitor.
FritzOS 8.21 for the Fritzbox 6670 Cable includes bug fixes that previously affected other cable routers such as the Fritzbox 6690. For example, IPv6 addresses were missing in the overview of WireGuard connections. These problems should not occur with the Fritzbox 6670 Cable in the first place. The sister models 5690 and 7690 do not require these cable-specific additions and therefore receive FritzOS 8.20.
As usual, the updates can be initiated via the web interface. By default, it can be accessed in the browser via the IP address 192.168.178.1. Alternatively, Fritz provides the ISO files via a download server.

New features at a glance
A core function is the so-called fail-safe: users can connect a fail-safe device via WAN, LAN, or USB, which the router can fall back on in case of internet problems. The fail-safe device can be a modem, a router, or a mobile broadband stick for an alternative internet connection. A smartphone with USB tethering also works in this mode.
The online monitor receives additional analysis functions. Users can view the entire traffic of the last two weeks, but also filter by top consumers and individual devices. This allows them to see who is using the internet connection most intensively.
Further improvements include Fritz NAS with a new upload share for sharing entire folders, new options for smart home, and simplifications for setting up mesh networks.
