Roblox Success: More and More Top Developers Earn Millions
Roblox introduces continuous age checks to prevent cheating. At the same time, top developers have massively increased their revenues.

The economy of the metaverse platform Roblox is growing: According to current company figures, Roblox creators generated around 1.5 billion US dollars in revenue last year. This marks the first time the billion-dollar mark has been broken within a year, representing an increase of over 62 percent compared to the previous year.
The 1000 most successful developers each earned an average of 1.3 million US dollars in 2025, surpassing the previous year's result by over 50 percent. This revenue is generated through the sale of virtual items and special gaming experiences. These top earners are contrasted with millions of active developers for whom Roblox primarily remains a hobby without significant monetization.
According to internal figures, the Roblox user base, consisting of around 144 million daily active users, is composed of 73 percent minors, with more than a third being under 13 years old.
This statistic is based on data that Roblox has been collecting since the beginning of January 2026. At that time, the company introduced mandatory age verification for the use of the chat function. With this measure, Roblox responded to a US lawsuit in which the platform operators are accused of not adequately protecting their young user base from child predators.

Photo tricks and made-up beards
According to Roblox, more than 45 percent of daily active users have now completed an age verification. There are two options for this: a facial scan using a selfie camera or, alternatively, the submission of an official identification document.
After the introduction of this system, reports of cheating emerged, according to which children could trick the system, for example, by using made-up beards or holding up photos of older individuals. In parallel, technical misclassifications are said to have led to adult users being incorrectly classified as minors. This is annoying because users are categorized into age groups based on this classification.
In response to cheating and errors, Roblox is now introducing continuous age verification. Accordingly, user behavior will be regularly evaluated in the future. The system uses multiple signals to determine if someone is significantly older or younger than indicated in their profile. If a discrepancy is detected, the user will be prompted to perform another age verification.
