Some Deutsche Telekom DSL customers are to pay two euros more per month from April 2026. DSL contracts concluded before April 2023 are affected. They carry marketing names such as Call & Surf or Magenta Zuhause. The Telecom group has begun to inform the respective customers about the price increase.
Affected customers can either pay the higher price or terminate their contract extraordinarily within three months. According to the heise online tariff calculator, there are competing offers starting at around 19 euros per month.
Deutsche Telekom justifies the price increase with rising costs. New customers of the market leader will therefore have to accept even higher prices than the affected existing customers.
Choose termination date wisely
Those who terminate their DSL contract with Telekom extraordinarily within the three-month period are not bound by any notice period. However, the date should be left to the new provider to avoid being without internet access. Once the connection is deactivated, a new connection can incur additional costs.

Internet connection tariffs vary depending on the desired bandwidths. Not all providers operate nationwide, so the respective location also plays a role. Finally, the price depends on the desired access technology, whether it is DSL again or fiber optic, TV cable, or a wireless method with a radio connection.
DT dominates
The number of DSL connections in Germany is declining. In 2020 and 2021, according to surveys by the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), there was a historical peak of 25.4 million; at the end of June 2025, there were only 23.2 million.
Of these, 13.5 million were with Deutsche Telekom and 8.2 million with competitors who either resell Deutsche Telekom's full service under their own brand or market the bitstream provided by Deutsche Telekom. However, the tariffs can differ significantly. Only 1.5 million DSL connections are therefore provided by alternative providers, either fully or by renting the Telekom connection line.
