Unity AI will soon be able to create complete video games via natural language prompts. This is promised by Unity CEO Matthew Bromberg, according to the industry magazine Game Developer in an interview with investors. The new version of Unity AI, which will be capable of this, is expected to be presented at the Game Developers Conference in March.
Unity AI is a suite of AI functions that interacts with the editor of the Unity engine. For example, it can program and create assets. Soon, according to CEO Bromberg's statements, Unity wants to announce a new version that can create complete games based on natural language commands.
Casual Games via Prompt
According to Game Developer, Bromberg explicitly spoke of "complete casual games" – so Unity is not promising that blockbuster productions can suddenly be cobbled together via text commands. However, the AI should be sufficient for smaller creations in the Unity engine. Bromberg speaks of a "democratization" of the game development process.

"Our goal is to make the creative process as seamless as possible and to create a universal bridge between the first spark of creativity and a successful, scalable, and lasting digital experience," Bromberg said, according to Game Developer. He assumes that at some point there will be "tens of millions" of people creating interactive entertainment with AI development tools. Unity wants to be at the forefront.
Unity AI differs significantly from world generation tools like Google's Genie, which caused a stir in the stocks of game companies a few weeks ago: While Genie creates worlds entirely from the AI retort, Unity AI can interact with the development tools that humans also use. Thus, not only assets but also game mechanics can be created via AI prompt.
