Google's Quick Share and Apple's AirDrop have been working together since November 21, 2025. However, until now, only data could be transferred seamlessly between the Pixel 10 series and iPhones, iPads, and Macs without additional software. Now Google has announced that it will also integrate the Pixel 9 devices.
Pixel 9a still left out
In its announcement, Google states that the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold models will receive AirDrop compatibility. According to the company, the feature will be "gradually rolled out in the coming weeks." Google explains that the function is intended to make "sharing high-resolution files with friends on iPhone, iPad, or macOS devices easier than ever." Data privacy and speed remain top priorities, as the function is based on a multi-layered security architecture.

To transfer files between Android and the Apple ecosystem, Apple users need to open their AirDrop settings and switch to "Everyone." Then, on the Android device, use Quick Share to share a file and search for the desired Apple device. The reverse also works – in this case, Android users must select "Everyone for 10 minutes" in the Quick Share settings.

Those who have carefully read the list of supported models will notice that the mid-range model of the 9 series, released in 2025, is missing. Unfortunately, Google does not explain why the smartphone is left out. Until then, owners of the mentioned Pixel model and others can use the tools Neardrop or Localsend.
AirDrop promised for more Android devices
Sooner or later, the Pixel 9a is also likely to receive native AirDrop support via Quick Share. Google's Eric Kay, Vice President of Engineering for the Android platform, recently stated that AirDrop interoperability is to be expanded far beyond Pixel smartphones this year. Nothing and Qualcomm have already indicated support.
Google has not tied the AirDrop interoperability to a specific system component for Pixel devices. Instead, the company has expanded the Quick Share extension from a system app stub to a full APK with its own Play Store entry. Through this development, Google has made AirDrop support a full Quick Share feature.
