Amazon is now the world's highest-grossing company
With an annual revenue of 717 billion US dollars, Amazon is now the world's highest-grossing company. Previously, Walmart had led the list for years.

No company generates more revenue than Amazon: The 717 billion US dollars that the tech giant generated in the past fiscal year are enough for 1st place in the list of the world's highest-grossing companies, according to a Bloomberg report. Previously, the US retailer Walmart had been at the top for over a decade.
While Amazon already presented its latest business figures in January, Walmart has now followed suit this week, with its fiscal year only ending on January 31. The retail dealer achieved a revenue of 713 billion US dollars – according to Bloomberg, Amazon's top position is now official. Amazon also benefits from high demand for cloud infrastructure for its revenue record.
Amazon's 717 billion US dollars in revenue represent an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, operating profit also rose by almost 17 percent to 80 billion US dollars. The increase in profit can likely also be attributed to extensive staff cuts: Amazon eliminated 14,000 administrative jobs in the fall. A further 16,000 jobs are to be eliminated this year. At the same time, however, Amazon announced that it would hire additional staff in other areas.

Walmart at the top since 2014
According to the Fortune 500 list from the business magazine Fortune, Walmart had continuously led the list of the world's highest-grossing companies since 2014. The US retailer had also been at the very top several times before, but in between, the oil company Shell also held the top revenue position. Amazon made it into the Top 10 for the first time in 2020, and in 2022 the tech company reached second place.
Other top-grossing companies in the world include several raw material and energy companies from China and Saudi Arabia. In the latest edition of the Fortune 500, published in the summer of 2025, Apple was the second tech company in the ranking in 8th place with a revenue of 391 billion US dollars. The highest-grossing German company was Volkswagen in 12th place.
