Sandisk Professional will operate solely under the G-Drive brand in the future
Western Digital and Sandisk are moving forward with their separation. WD is now recalling G-Drive branded external hard drives.

USB hard drives from the previous Sandisk Professional G-Drive brand will soon appear under the standalone G-Drive brand name. "Sandisk Professional" will be dropped. Nothing will change about the products with the G logo; they will simply come in new packaging without the Sandisk imprint.
The transfer of the hard drives is part of the separation between the two companies. The former WD subsidiary Sandisk has been an independent company again since February 2025. Western Digital will manage all hard drive products, Sandisk all SSDs. Sandisk has already re-released numerous WD SSDs under its own name.
The G-Drive family includes individual external hard drives with capacities ranging from one to 26 TByte. It also includes RAID systems that can reach up to 208 TByte with eight bays. However, these models do not have NAS functions, for example for media servers.

Smooth transition
WD states in a press release that the transition from Sandisk Professional to the independent G-Drive brand should be completed by the end of February 2026. According to the manufacturer, new editions are already being shipped. However, it could take months until the old Sandisk models are completely sold out. For buyers, however, this is irrelevant.

Unlike Sandisk with its SSDs, WD is adopting the model numbers of the G-Drive hard drives. Accordingly, the transition is smooth. With SSDs, however, the change is abrupt: Previous models, for example from the WD Black series, have become above-average expensive recently, while the new Sandisk editions are not yet widely available.
Meanwhile, WD is taking over support for previous G-Drive hard drives sold under the Sandisk name. This also includes warranty services in case of defects.
