Following OpenAI, Meta: AMD sells GPUs for billions of US dollars
Meta secures millions of AI accelerators from AMD over several years. The deal is almost a 1:1 copy of the OpenAI agreement.

AMD and Meta are agreeing on a framework contract worth billions of US dollars. Over five years, Meta plans to purchase AI accelerators from AMD with a total capacity of six gigawatts. In return, Meta will receive AMD company shares if everything goes according to plan.
The publicly announced terms are largely copied from the agreement between AMD and OpenAI. Meta intends to purchase the first tranche of AI accelerators for the first gigawatt in the second half of the year. According to the announcement, AMD is adapting its Instinct MI450 accelerator for a custom version. Meta is purchasing complete Helios servers from AMD, including Epyc Venice processors (Zen 6) and the company's network technology. Additionally, Meta plans to purchase individual Epyc CPUs.
By today's standards, six gigawatts would correspond to almost 4.3 million GPUs of the Instinct MI355X type, each with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 1400 watts. By 2030, the electrical power consumption per accelerator is expected to increase further: at 2000 watts, it would be three million GPUs; at 3000 watts, two million.
60 billion US dollars minus discount
According to the Reuters news agency, the Meta deal is worth approximately 60 billion US dollars over the entire five-year period. This currently equates to 51 billion euros. The two companies themselves do not state such a specific value. For comparison, this would be more than AMD's current annual revenue. It was 34.6 billion US dollars in 2025.
As with OpenAI, AMD has also agreed on milestones with Meta. Meta must purchase certain, but not communicated, GPU quantities to receive options for up to 160 million AMD shares. These would then cost only a symbolic cent each and currently correspond to a ten percent stake in the company. In return, AMD must achieve certain stock price targets. Thus, after OpenAI, Meta also has a direct interest in AMD's success.
Currently, 160 million shares would have a value of about 33 billion US dollars or 28 billion euros. If Meta exercises the purchase options, they indirectly represent a discount on the hardware.

As early as 2024, Meta was AMD's largest customer for AI accelerators. At that time, the company reportedly purchased 173,000 Instinct MI300 GPUs. Since then, hyperscalers have significantly accelerated the expansion of AI data centers.
Immediately after the announcement of the Meta agreement, AMD's stock rose by almost 15 percent. It has since settled at a gain of seven to eight percent. The January high is currently still around 20 percent away.
