After the rather sparsely populated VR months of January and February, March 2026 has a bit more to offer. VR fans can look forward to psychological horror in the Star Trek universe – provided “Star Trek Infection” is not postponed again. With “Bootstrap Island”, an ambitious survival game with a pirate setting is also taking the step out of Early Access. In addition, there are some smaller productions that are definitely worth a look, and numerous updates for established titles.

“Star Trek Infection”: Psychological horror in the Federation universe
With “Star Trek Infection”, Played With Fire and publisher Broken Mirror Games are daring a radical genre change within the familiar science fiction cosmos. The project was presented at Gamescom 2025 and was originally scheduled to be released in December. The single-player experience with a strong horror focus puts players in the role of a Vulcan Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Lumen, an experimental Defiant-class ship. The crew has disappeared, an alien life form has infested the ship – and one's own body is not spared.

According to the developers, the focus is on the loss of control over one's own body, in addition to an external threat. Players struggle with hallucinations, psychological instability, and physical mutations, fighting against themselves. Publisher Broken Mirror Games is an indie label belonging to Bloober Team, specializing in horror titles. Most recently, the publisher released “I Hate This Place”, among others. The release of “Star Trek Infection” is planned for Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, and SteamVR. There is no concrete date yet.
“Bootstrap Island”: Survival roguelike leaves Early Access
On March 12, 2026, “Bootstrap Island” will be released in version 1.0, ending its Early Access phase on Steam after two years. Developer Maru VR is expanding the existing survival roguelike with new systems and completing the story. Players are stranded on a tropical island in the 17th century and must contend with animals, extreme weather, and day-night cycles. The game deliberately omits a tutorial. Progress is made through repeated attempts: new items are unlocked after death.

The final update adds a native tribe, allowing for friendly or hostile relationships. Additionally, Maru VR promises new weapons, revised combat systems, another boss encounter, and cutscenes with voice acting to conclude the story. The price is likely to increase from the current 25 Euros upon release. A version for PS VR2 is also planned for release later in the year.

Other releases, DLCs and updates
In addition, several smaller titles and ports of already released VR games will be released in March. “Rager”, already released for Meta Quest and SteamVR, combines music rhythm with arena combat and will also be released for Sony's VR headset in March. The PS VR2 version offers 90 Hz display, HDR image output, and haptic feedback via controllers and headset, among other features. In addition to a campaign with twelve levels, other modes are planned.
“Maid of Sker” adapts the 2019 game of the same name by Wales Interactive as VR horror. In a hotel in 1898, horror fans must pay attention to sounds. Enemies react to noise, breathing, footsteps, and collisions. The PC VR game “Grimlord”, a dark action role-playing game with physics-based melee combat, is scheduled to be released on PS VR2 in March. The campaign comprises three chapters and is set in a dark fantasy world à la “Dark Souls”. With “Iron Guard Salvation”, PSVR 2 owners will receive one of the rare VR strategy titles in March. Players build defenses, manage resources, and directly control an upgradeable drone in combat.
Several existing games will also receive new content or structural changes in March. The tactical shooter “Forefront” adds a new map called “Oasis” and an additional vehicle. At the same time, the Early Access price will increase from 25 to 30 Euros. “Blade and Sorcery Nomad” receives “Sentara”, the second of four planned content updates. It includes a new map with a maritime theme, additional weapons and armor, and a revised physics system for buoyancy in water.
To coincide with the release of “Resident Evil Requiem”, IO Interactive is releasing the free expansion “Patient Zero Requiem” for “Hitman World of Assassination”. The time-limited mission starring actress Milla Jovovich is also playable in VR. The award-winning “The Midnight Walk” is permanently reducing its price from 40 to 30 Euros for PS VR2 and PC VR, and the underwhelming “Zombie Army VR” will lose its online co-op mode at the end of March.
