AV Linux and MX Moksha 25.1: Package Refresh

The maintainer Glen MacArthur (nickname Gmaq) has released version 25.1 of his Linux distribution AV Linux (AVL) and its variant MX Moksha (MXM). The main focus was on software maintenance, with numerous packages updated.

In the release announcement, Gmaq writes that these are not new versions of the operating systems. The update primarily refreshes the ISO images with updates and bug fixes. Fundamentally, Gmaq has synchronized the repositories with Debian Trixie 13.3 and MX Linux 25.1. The Liquorix kernel with particularly low latencies is now at version 6.18.13, with MacArthur having activated the "threadirqs" feature. The Cable-PipeWire frontend is included at version 0.9.28. A new file action for direct playback of DVD ISO files in MPV has been added. After this, the update path diverges between AVL and MX Moksha.

Desktop-specific updates

AVL, which uses the Enlightenment desktop, has received some unspecified changes to the default "Ease" theme and includes a few new wallpapers. As a digital audio workstation (DAW), AVL now includes Ardour – at the status of nightly builds, version 9.2.18. Gmaq has updated the Noise-Repellent and Drumlabooh plugins. Under MX Moksha, the namesake Moksha desktop from the Bodhi Linux project is on board in version 0.4.2. Additionally, project contributors have ported the Enlightenment screenshot module to Moksha. GTK4 theme colors in Gnome apps have been improved.

MacArthur provides the current ISOs on separate download pages for AV Linux 25.1 and MX Moksha 25.1. He asks long-time users for donations, as hosting, hardware for testing, and time that could otherwise be used for other important matters incur costs.

After a longer break, development on AVL and the new variant MXM resumed in November last year with the release of version 25. This is based on MX Linux and was thus also brought up to the level of Debian 13 (Trixie).
