Sony apparently wants to make its own developments more exclusive again: Future single-player titles from Sony studios are to be released exclusively for PlayStation consoles, reports Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier on the “Triple Click” podcast. In recent years, many Sony games have been released on PC with some delay.

Sony plans to only do this with multiplayer and live service titles in the future, says Schreier. The Bloomberg journalist is considered excellently informed and repeatedly causes a stir in the gaming industry with his exclusive reports. His statements about Sony's departure from PC portings of its single-player titles are also making waves. Schreier intends to publish further details at a later date.

Sony began bringing its once closely guarded PlayStation exclusive titles to PC in 2020. With the PC version of “Horizon Zero Dawn,” Sony announced for the first time the implementation of a real blockbuster of its development for the PC. PC versions are not only intended to bring more attention to the PlayStation but also generate additional revenue.

Numerous other crown jewels from Sony followed “Zero Dawn”: “God of War,” “Spider-Man,” and “Uncharted” found their way to the PC. “Death Stranding 2” is also scheduled to be ported to PC this year, Sony has already announced. However, for the new Insomniac game “Wolverine”, no PC port is planned, says Schreier.

A return to more console exclusivity could also be imminent for Xbox. Following the reshuffling of the management team, previous strategies are likely to be put to the test. Microsoft's Xbox team, under Phil Spencer, has released numerous in-house developments for PlayStation. The idea behind this was to more or less abandon the already lost console duel against Sony's PlayStation and instead increase revenue through the publishing of video games.

The new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is not yet willing to commit completely whether Xbox titles will continue to appear on PlayStation in the future. “We also know that there are a lot of players who aren't on console or our hardware, and I want to deliver great games to them too,” Sharma said in conversation with WindowsCentral. However, she needs some time to learn what this strategy might look like in the future.
