OpenAI is working on a GitHub alternative, The Information reports, citing an insider. After several outages of Microsoft's portal, OpenAI developers have started working on an in-house code repository as an alternative.

The project is reportedly still in the early stages of development and will not be released in the coming months. The option of selling the platform after its completion is also being discussed, according to The Information. Another option being considered is to use the tool exclusively internally. OpenAI has not commented on this.

The Information also recalls that other tech companies already use their code repositories internally. Developers can store and collaboratively edit code in these. Well-known examples include Meta's Sapling and Google's Piper.

OpenAI is also putting pressure on the competition in other areas. Just last year, the company equipped its AI chatbot ChatGPT with ChatGPT with an instant checkout feature and developed Agentic Commerce. Users can find and buy products directly in ChatGPT.

With ChatGPT Translate, an AI-based translation service for more than 50 different languages, and the Chrome competitor Atlas, OpenAI has also competed with various Google offerings in the past.
