By the deadline today, approximately 11,500 authorities, companies, and other critical facilities have registered with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) under the new NIS2 regime. A spokesperson for the Bonn-based authority announced this on the afternoon of the request from heise online.
Over 4,000 of the actors now registered with the BSI as operators of critical infrastructure completed the registration within the past week. In mid-February, the total number was significantly lower, at only 4,500 registered. However, even with today's figures, around 18,000 operators of important or particularly important facilities are still missing from the 29,500 who are obliged to register, and which the Federal Ministry of the Interior assumed throughout the entire legislative process.

In the coming days, it should become clearer whether the previous estimates were too high or whether affected parties have failed to comply with their reporting obligations in larger numbers. The Federal Office for Information Security has not yet been able to provide an assessment of the figures now available as of the deadline.
