Steam Machine: Valve is unsure if a release this year is feasible
Valve is preparing users for further disappointments with the Steam Machine: A spring release is postponed to "hopefully 2026" due to the storage crisis.

When will the Steam Machine arrive? Not even Valve seems to know at the moment. In a blog post, the Steam operator is causing further confusion about a possible release date. In any case, the previously valid statement “in the first half of 2026” seems to be a thing of the past.
On Friday, Valve published a blog post intended as a review of the Steam year. However, a paragraph in which Valve addresses the Steam Machine, the Steam Frame, and the new Steam Controller is receiving particular media attention. In the first English version of the blog post, Valve wrote, according to US media, “We hope to ship in 2026.” A new version of the English post, however, states: “We will ship all three products this year,” so Valve is clearly more confident in the updated version.
More cautious wording in Germany
However, Valve has not adjusted the international versions of the blog post. Anyone calling up the entry from Germany will still find a rather reserved statement: “We hope to bring the new devices to market this year, but we are also affected by the current global shortages regarding the availability of storage components.” This can be interpreted to mean that Valve may be delivering later in Germany than in the US market – or simply that the update of the international blog entries was forgotten.

None of this looks good – the different blog entries do not exactly inspire confidence. But even the most optimistic interpretation of the new information would probably amount to another postponement: Valve most recently promised to launch the Steam Machine, the Steam Frame, and the Steam Controller in the first half of 2026. There is no mention of that now.
Valve postpones covertly
In any case, one can accuse Valve of quibbling: “Early 2026” became “in the first half of 2026” before it simply became “2026” – hopefully or certainly, depending on which blog entry you read. This implies delays in the release schedule without explicitly confirming them. Valve apparently finds discussions about the Steam Machine's release date inconvenient.
The price of the Steam Machine is also still completely open. The storage crisis makes it difficult for manufacturers to obtain hardware components for building PCs and consoles at all. Furthermore, the prices to be paid are extraordinarily high and involve great uncertainties.
Valve's Steam Machine could face competition from the new Xbox in the future: Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed that Project Helix can play both console and PC games.
