“Deponia” can currently be picked up for free on Steam. The point-and-click adventure from Daedalic is being offered for free temporarily in Valve's game store. Once activated and added to your library, you can play the game permanently.
The free offer for “Deponia” is valid until March 16th at 10 AM. The cult point-and-click adventure normally costs 10 euros but was regularly offered for 99 cents during sales. The savings are therefore relatively small in comparison. However, if you want to get the three sequels as well, you should strike now: All three (“Chaos on Deponia,” “Goodbye Deponia,” and “Deponia Doomsday”) currently cost 2 euros each. This way, you can get the entire “Deponia” series of four games for 6 euros.
The “Deponia” games represent Daedalic at the zenith of point-and-click: The games tell the story of the clumsy Rufus, who wants to escape from a junk planet to the utopian space station Elysium while simultaneously winning over the not-so-subtly named Goal. The humorous adventures by Jan Baumann (born Jan Müller-Michaelis, also known as “Poki”) play like classic point-and-click adventures. The main character Rufus has to examine the environment, find items, combine them more or less logically, and have conversations with the eccentric inhabitants of the sci-fi world.

Daedalic no longer develops games
The first “Deponia” part was released in 2012 and still looks good today thanks to its hand-drawn graphics. Just four years later, Daedalic concluded the series with “Deponia Doomsday.” After that, Daedalic moved away from developing classic adventures. With “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum,” the Hamburg-based development studio wanted to create a 3D action game to reach a larger target audience. The game flopped.
Since then, Daedalic has completely withdrawn from video game development; today, the company only acts as a publisher for indie projects. In 2022, the French company Nacon bought Daedalic for up to 53 million Euros. In February, Nacon filed for insolvency in France.
