Samsung is discontinuing sales of the double-folding Foldable Galaxy Z TriFold just a few months after its sales launch in December 2025. Only remaining stock will be sold off in the USA as well. This was confirmed by a Samsung spokesperson to the news agency Bloomberg.
According to the spokesperson, the Korean company is initially discontinuing sales in its home market and then, once remaining stock is sold off, also in the USA. This step was already expected, as there have been no indications of future restocks of the double-folding foldable, which has two hinges and can unfold into a large 10-inch tablet, on Samsung's website since March. It now simply states that the TriFold is "sold out".
Even before Samsung's confirmation, IT circles in South Korea reported that the nearly $3000 device was to be discontinued. The reason cited by source Donga was cost pressure. Prices for key components such as DRAM, flash memory, and processors have risen significantly, making sales hardly profitable even with continued marketing. Furthermore, the construction of a double-folding screen requires special materials to minimize mechanical stress at the folding points.

Showcase Product
An industry insider said about the device: "The Trifold was more of a showcase product developed to demonstrate the technology rather than to generate profits from sales." Samsung introduced the device at the end of last year as a demonstration of its technical expertise. However, due to its high price, it was intended from the outset only as a niche product for wealthy early adopters.
In an interview at the end of February on the sidelines of the Galaxy S26 series launch, Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung's Mobile Experience Business, told Bloomberg that the company had not yet decided whether the Trifold would have a successor. He pointed to the complex manufacturing of the device. Samsung might incorporate some of the device's advantages, such as the widescreen format, which is well-suited for media consumption, into a new foldable expected later this year. The company typically uses July to introduce its foldables and smartwatches.
