“Okay Garmin, send message” – WhatsApp now also on Garmin smartwatches

WhatsApp is now available on selected smartwatches from the Garmin brand, as the company announced today, Tuesday. Users can download the messenger app from Garmin's Store Connect IQ with immediate effect. Initially, WhatsApp is only available for some models in the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vivoactive series.
According to Garmin, this is not a standalone messenger app. To use WhatsApp on a Garmin smartwatch, a connected iOS or Android smartphone with WhatsApp is still required, the company clarifies. It is the first and currently also the only third-party messenger available for Garmin smartwatches.
Reactions and replies from the watch
In addition to viewing current messages, chats, and message histories, the functions include replying to incoming messages with emojis or via the on-screen keyboard. Users can also see and reject WhatsApp calls. The messages remain end-to-end encrypted.

In November of last year, Meta's WhatsApp released an official messenger app for the Apple Watch. Previously, users could only display WhatsApp notifications from their smartphone on the Apple Watch and respond using suggested reply options.
