Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: AMD officially announces first processor with two cache dies
After months of speculation, AMD introduces the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. It is the desktop processor with the most cache.

For the first time, AMD is releasing a desktop processor where two compute chiplets each receive an additional cache die (3D V-Cache). The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition comes with 16 Zen 5 cores and 192 MB of Level 3 cache. No other desktop processor has more Level 3 cache.
As with the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, AMD is keeping clock frequencies high for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 as well. According to the datasheet, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 can reach up to 5.6 GHz – only 100 MHz less than the previous Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The latter only has one cache die for a total of 128 MB of Level 3 cache.
Power consumption increases
However, efficiency is likely to suffer again out of the box: AMD is increasing the Thermal Design Power (TDP) again, to now 200 watts. The previous maximum was 170 watts. If AMD proceeds as before, the actual electrical power consumption will be up to 270 watts (a factor of 1.35 of the TDP). However, users can subsequently curb the energy hunger in the BIOS or via the Ryzen Master tool.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is expected to be available from April 22, 2026. AMD does not explicitly state whether it will be available in retail or only for complete PCs. Since the product page shows a boxed version, sales through retailers are likely. AMD has not yet commented on the price. The focus on developers and creatives in the announcement suggests a high price recommendation. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will certainly be positioned above the previous Ryzen 9 9950X3D (starting from 629 €).
Exclusively for the target group of developers and creatives, AMD shows its own benchmarks: for rendering tasks, simulations, and compilations, among others, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is said to be five to 13 percent faster than the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
