EclipseSource has announced that the new community release 2026-02 for Eclipse Theia is ready. The platform's community releases for creating integrated development environments (IDEs) and tools for the web and desktop are published quarterly.
In contrast to the regular releases, which are usually published monthly, they focus more on stability and compatibility. In the new version, developers will find features from Theia versions 1.67 and 1.68, which deal with artificial intelligence, among other things.
All about AI: GitHub Copilot integration and Agent Skills
The new community release offers GitHub Copilot integration for both the Theia IDE and all tools built with Theia AI. Those who already have an existing GitHub Copilot subscription can use it directly without additional API keys or subscriptions. This feature comes from Eclipse Theia 1.68, as do Agent Skills. These are still in alpha status and allow agents to be provided with reusable instructions and domain knowledge.

The betterCode() GenAI Summit will show on June 11 which AI tools are suitable for which tasks and how AI integration works efficiently. It will also address the impact of AI-powered software development on security and the work of development teams.
Terminal Manager combines multiple terminals
The Terminal Manager, available since Eclipse Theia 1.67, has now also found its way into the community release. It allows managing multiple terminals from a single view, with vertical and horizontal splitting, tree-based navigation, as well as the ability to rename terminals and arrange them via drag & drop. The Terminal Manager can be activated by setting the configuration terminal.grouping.mode to tree.
