The best VR games in April 2026: "Little Nightmares", "FlatOut 4", and "Wrath"
April is packed with new VR games that couldn't be more different – from fast-paced action to emotional storytelling, everything is included.
VR fans can look forward to a rush of adrenaline in April: "FlatOut 4" is getting an official VR implementation.

The mood in the VR market has at times sunk to rock bottom in recent weeks and months. Meta is restructuring its Reality Labs and is giving up VR game development, renowned VR studios like nDreams and Polyarc have to cut jobs, and the social VR pioneer „Rec Room“ is going offline. But at the latest since the March edition of the VR Games Showcase, VR gaming fans can breathe a sigh of relief: there are still exciting releases, and a whole series of them are coming out in April.
"Wrath: Aeon of Ruin VR": Fast-paced boomer shooter in VR
With "Wrath: Aeon of Ruin VR – Brutal Edition", developer Team Beef, together with Flat2VR Studios, is bringing a traditional first-person shooter to virtual reality. The story is set in a dark fantasy world where players, as the "Outlander", thin out hordes of enemies in decaying landscapes. Technically, the game is based on an adapted version of the Quake engine and aims to combine classic shooter mechanics with direct physical interaction.
Players can use two weapons simultaneously, and interactions like reloading require hand movements, which should make the fast-paced battles even more demanding. A sliding movement specially developed for VR is intended to further increase the tempo and enable faster positional changes.

"The Amusement": Emotional ARTE Adventure
In contrast, there is "The Amusement", produced by ARTE France. The adventure follows protagonist Samantha Burkhart, who investigates an abandoned amusement park of her deceased father and is confronted with family conflicts, loss, and painful memories. The release date on Meta Quest and SteamVR is set for April 16th.
Developer Curvature Games aims to make movement in VR particularly comfortable with a technology called "Redirected Walking". Players move in real space, while the virtual environment is adapted so that they can cover longer distances without artificial locomotion. An area of about two by two meters should be sufficient for this. Alternatively, teleportation is available.

"FlatOut 4" returns as a VR racing game
With "FlatOut 4: Total Insanity VR", a VR version of the action-packed racing game from 2017 will initially be released in Early Access. Racing game fans can get directly into the vehicle and experience collisions and stunts up close. All cockpits have been completely redesigned for the VR version, as the original did not offer an interior view of the vehicles.
Destructible environments remain a central element and directly influence the race. A total of 27 vehicles and 20 tracks are available, which can be destroyed in various single-player modes such as classic races, arena battles, or a stunt mode. There will also be an online mode when "FlatOut 4 VR" launches on SteamVR on April 23rd.

"Little Nightmares VR": Horror franchise changes perspective
"Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes" transfers the well-known series to the first-person perspective for the first time. As "Dark Six", players explore a dark world and must rediscover lost parts of their own identity.

The story leads through various areas of a dark coastal city and is intended to lead fans of the series to altered versions of familiar locations. As in the original, which now comprises three parts, puzzles and escape sequences will be the focus. It starts on April 24th on Meta Quest 3, PC-VR via Steam, and Playstation VR 2.
