For years, ergonomic keyboards have been considered by frequent typists to be a means against overexertion of wrists, shoulders, and neck. The gaming market, on the other hand, has so far treated the curved input devices rather stepmotherly. That is now over, because with the “Pro Type Ergo”, Razer also wants to serve this peripheral niche and compete with the market leaders like Logitech, Kinesis, and Dygma.
Split layout for flexible posture
The new Razer model is strongly reminiscent of the layout of the symmetrically staggered Logitech Ergo K860, which aims to relieve wrists with a split and curved shape. Razer adopts this idea but combines it with additional controls and RGB backlighting typical of the gaming accessories market.
The keyboard is divided into two halves, allowing the hands to be positioned further apart. This is intended to reduce lateral movements and prevent complaints in the long term. Several tilt angles – forward, backward, or flat – allow adjustments depending on sitting or standing position.
The unusual key arrangement is striking: two space bars, a centrally placed backspace key, and double “B” keys distribute frequent inputs to both hands. Razer aims to avoid unnecessary finger travel, which could positively impact the transition to the new layout – because it is precisely these concepts that often fail in practice.

Rotary knobs, macro keys, and long-lasting battery
According to the manufacturer, the flat keys have a short actuation path, requiring less force. Small indentations help guide the fingers. To ensure quiet typing, additional layers inside dampen the typing noise. In addition to the common standard elements such as key block, number pad, and function keys, Razer also integrates additional special keys into the Pro Type Ergo. These include programmable macro keys, a separate mute button for the microphone, and a rotary knob that can be used to navigate through documents or zoom.

There is also a key for automated AI functions such as summaries or email drafts. Razer positions these features as a way to reduce typical interruptions in the workflow and allows them to be configured via the accompanying software “Razer Synapse”. The keyboard can be paired with multiple devices simultaneously – such as desktop, laptop, and tablet – and enables quick switching. Connection can be made wirelessly, via Bluetooth, or cable, and the battery is said to last several months, according to the manufacturer.
The Razer Pro Type Ergo is available now for just under 200 euros.
